How many metres of Giftwrap do I need to wrap my gifts?
How to measure Giftwrap
Step 1 - Know the size of your biggest gift
Starting with the question, how big is the biggest gift you are trying to wrap? Measure the length, the width and the height
If we can establish how big your biggest gift is likely to be, then your other gifts will be smaller than this and can be wrapped from the same roll of Giftwrap.
"Remember it is the very easiest to wrap things inside a square or rectangle box. We recommend finding a box to take your gift, if it hasn't come with one. This will make your wrapping both easier and give a neater end result."
For the majority of our gift wrapping audience, your gift is likely to be inside a neat little box already!
Step 2 - Where to join the wrap
Consider where you will want the Giftwrap to join (see below image) - and does your product need to sit on a certain side (think chocolates - you want the gift wrapped box to sit with the chocolates on their base - you will need to start with the box upside down). Getting the seam in the middle will result in a perfect presentation.
Step 3 - Measuring the Width you'll need for wrapping
Now measure the distance across the top of the box, and down each of the sides, a little over halfway (see image below) to decide how big a piece of wrap is needed (this is to avoid having to wrap with two pieces of wrap!)
Once you know this measurement you would like to find a sheet or roll that has that width (either perfect, or a little over this measurement).
Let's try that again with some numbers in, if your box is 30cm in length and with a width and height of 14cm (finding this is Step 1). We lay the box down to measure for Step 2: 30cm width plus 8cm x 2 for the sides (this is the minimum we need for a width) - this adds up to 46cm so a roll of 50cm width paper will work just fine as the joins won't be difficult to meet up.
Step 4 - Finding a roll width to suit my wrapping
If the dimension you found in Step 3 is anything up to 30cm - We recommend a 30cm width roll
If the dimension you found in Step 3 is anything between 30cm and 50cm - We recommend a 50cm width roll
If the dimension you found in Step 3 is anything between 50cm and 70cm - We recommend a 70cm width roll
If the dimension is larger than 70cm you will require a join in the wrapping, and it might be neatest to use a 50cm roll (for a dimension between 70cm and 100cm), or if Very wide, than a 70cm roll (for a dimension between 100cm and 140cm). It may depend what your regular ongoing needs for wrapping are, whether you would usually use a 30cm, 50cm or 70cm roll.
